This is the last week for Music on Maynard this fall.  The event will be held in Moore’s Park at the gazebo from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, November 18th.

We are joined by Voices of Hope which is a 16 member choral ensemble accented by a 4 piece band.  This gospel performance is  co-sponsored by Hospice of Chesterfield County.  Also performing is Steve West from Ruby, SC.  He will lead in the night just before 6 and will perform again during the group’s intermission.

Come downtown early, do some shopping and catch a bite to eat.  Then bring your chair, wrap up and enjoy the music.

Steve Kirchin is our event coordinator for the Golf Tournament.  Steve has several years experience with planning and executing this tournament, so you can count on a smooth start to finish.  “This is one of the best fund raisers for the Chamber of Commerce.  We have a good time and do a good thing for our community.”  Kirchin commented lately.  Funds from the event help with expenses for other free events offered by the Chamber.

There are many ways to participate in this event.  Sponsorships range from full tournament sponsors to hole sponsors and many levels in between.  Door prizes and golfer goody bags items are also needed.  Most important, we need teams!  If you would like more information, call the Chamber office at 672-6400, or download the registration form here to participate.

The gazebo will be the site for three weeks of great music, fellowship and fun.  Local and homegrown talent is on the menu.  There is no admission price.  You only need to bring a chair or blanket with you.

Beginning on Thursday, October 28th - Tony Adams is back by popular demand!!!    Tony was raised in Jefferson, he now lives in Georgia, but makes regular stops back home for family visits and performances.  You might even catch him at a Christmas parade in Pageland or Jefferson.  His smooth musical talents and big heart keep him on the top of our list of performers!  It all kicks off at 6 pm and runs until 8pm.  Come down and check out the fun, grab a bite at one of our local restaurants and remember to bring a chair or blanket with you to the park!

OnThursday, November 4th – the boys are back in town!  That’s right, Natural Reactionwill be here again, thanks to your overwhelming request.  This is our very own hometown band making their way up the ladder of musical success.  Loads of talent and a great variety of music keep crowds coming back for more.  Catch their performance right here in their back yard – Pageland!  The time is the same (6 pm to 8 pm).  Don’t forget your chair!

We skip a week, but crank it back up on Thursday, November 18th.  This will be Gospel week and music will be provided by Hope Music Ministries – Voices of Hope.  This is a wonderful gospel group that has 20+ voices, some that have been singing for as many years.  They are members of our Chamber of Commerce and founders of the Annual Heritage Festival which began in 2010. We will also enjoy music during intermission, provided by Steve West resident of Ruby, SC.   This week’s gospel event is being co-sponsored with Hospice of Chesterfield County.  Again, don’t forget your chair and your holiday spirit!

The Pageland Chamber of Commerce treated 75 ladies to a luncheon on April 21st at the Community Center.  Guest mingled prior to the noon start, enjoying each other’s company. 

Chamber President, Joe Steen welcomed everyone and thanked them for coming out to celebrate their day with us.  The ladies were treated to a meal provided by Lynn’s Cafe of Pageland.

The speaker for the occasion was Julie Perkins, Development Director for Union County Habitat for Humanity.  Julie informed the ladies about the fund raising efforts of Habitat and how folks in the community can help.  She also announced that the first Habitat home in Pageland will soon break ground on Evans Mill Road, the site of 3 homes, eventually.  This first house will be a “Women Build” home – yes, built by women!  She encouraged everyone to do whatever they can to help.  You don’t need to have a skill, just a desire to assist. 

Julie also told the crowd about the differences in a Habitat home and one built by a show like Extreme Makeover Homes.  Habitat homes are not extravagant, the essentials are included and it is also partially built by the soon to be resident.    The homes are well built, exceeding code requirements and include a sprinkler system.  Habitat home recipients have to log several hours of volunteer time and they also have to make a mortgage payment.  Habitat secures the finances for a period of 10 years before it is totally turned over to the home buyer, giving that person time to adjust to payments and utility cost.

Julie also announced that the home will be built for Alisha Diggs and her three children.  Alisha works at CMC-Union in Monroe and will be onsite helping out at many times.  Julie has met with Alisha and is excited for her and the family.

Next, the Chamber announced the 2010 Outstanding Woman in Business.  Kimberly Burch was chosen for her years of public service.  She is currently the coordinator for existing industry for the Chesterfield County Economic Development.  Kim also serves on the Northeastern Technical College Board and as Vice-Chairman of the Chesterfield County School Board.  Kim is married to Paul Burch, Judge for the 4th Circuit Court and they have three children – Ashley, Kendall and Mike.  Joe then explained how in trying to keep the announcement a surprise until the last minute, it can sometimes cause a problem.  In doing so this year, Kim could not be present, due to prior commitments in Columbia.  Kendall was on hand to receive the award for her mom.  She passed along a message of thanks and surprise from Kim.

The last few minutes of the luncheon were spent with prize drawings.  These items were donated by Chamber Member businesses.  There were plenty of prizes to go around, as everyone present was a winner.  As the guest were leaving, Chamber Board members passed along an additional goodie bag, filled with items from area businesses and a insulated bag from the Chamber.

We would like to thank all the businesses and employers that participated in this year’s Women in Business Luncheon.  We stand proud of the women in the business community. 

The Chamber of Commerce was proud to sponsor Music on Maynard for three weeks in June.  The musical event took place downtown at the gazebo. It was a great way for families to enjoy the warm summer nights in Pageland, SC.

On Thursday night, June 10th,  we enjoyed the smooth rhythm and blues, rock and soul music of RJ Adams. Concert goers brought a chair or blanket and enjoyed  this free entertainment.  RJ will be back in town for the festival on Saturday, July 17th at 7 pm.

June 17th  featured an original hometown guy – Tony Adams!  He sang a variety of music and added a great local flavor and flair to this family fun event!  Tony drew a good crowd, especially from his hometown of Jefferson, SC.

On Thursday, June 24th, Elvis made appearance in Pageland!  He made a grand entrance in a police escorted cadallic.  The evening was rather warm, but Elvis proved to be a great sport and sang through the heat to a large crowd.

WOW,  What a night!  On Tuesday, January 12th, the Chamber of Commerce held our Annual Awards Banquet at the Pageland Community Center.  Again this year, our businesses jumped for the chance to decorate tables reflecting their company.  Beautiful tables and unique ones were admired by approximately 150 guest for the event. Our theme “It Starts with Us” got off to a good start with all of the participation for the evening.   Be sure and check out the loads of pictures below.

 Beautiful music filled the air, thanks to Wingate University student Taylor Vansil.  The guest enjoyed judging the table decorations and voting for their favorite.  A wonderful meal was provided by Mickey’s Restaurant. 

We heard from 2009 President Greg Lawrence on some of the highlights from the year, especially the 1st Annual Art Show at the Center and the Candidate Forum.  2010 Chamber President, Joe Steen promised to keep things interesting for us and to continue the drive to make Pageland a wonderful place to live, work and do business.

Our speaker, Mr. Larry Stinson, Principal at New Heights Middle School gave a serious and sometime humorous look at how we should perceive ourselves and the people we encounter.  Be happy in your situation, be happy with how you look and who you are, and accept imperfections.  He also introduced us to FIDO, who sits in his office window and reminds him to Forget It and Drive On.  Never waste time on revenge or being mad.  Mr. Stinson reminded us that “If  you don’t do it, someone else will”.  Sticking to our banquet theme “It Starts with Us”, you may miss out on a true blessing or an opportunity for personal growth if you don’t let change begin with you!

Phil Ingram presented Friend of the Festival Awards to Josh Johnson and the Pageland Police Department.

Karen Brock continued with Friend of the Festival Awards to Parade Grand Marshals Betty Ballard and Teenie Blakeney.

Steve Kirchen presented the Chamber Service Award to Steve Crisp for fund raising efforts toward our Golf Tournament. 

Phil Ingram presented a $600 check to the Pageland Pride Project to help with redecorating the Pageland Town Hall.

Joe Steen presented the Past President Award to Greg Lawrence.

Tony Nolan announced the Corporate Citizen of the Year – Lynches River Electric Cooperative.  They were chosen especially for their works through WIRE (Women In Rural Electric) and Operation Round Up.

Sarah Decker announced the Citizen of the Year – Bruce “Eddie” Rivers – our Fire Cheif for the last 40+ years, Chesterfield County Councilman for the Pageland area for 20+ years and retiree of the Town of Pageland.

The night ended with the announcement of the $50 prize for Best Table – Wal-Mart DC 6073.  Wal-Mart will donate that money to the Pageland Pride Project.

Description: This event is held during the Christmas holiday season each year in downtown Pageland. The annual parade of lights begins at 5:00 pm hence the need for lights on entries. There is always a special guest for the children.
