Karen Brock and Amanda Stegall, co-chairmen for the event, have made three age categories. They are:
Youth Division, $10 registration fee – Ages 10 – 17
Adult 1 Division, $20 registration fee – Ages 18 – 34
Adult 2 Division, $20 registration fee – Ages 35 and up

The lucky winners will perform at the Watermelon Festival on July 21st.   All winners 16 and older will be eligible for registration in the Texaco Showdown – and we will pay the registration fee for you! The deadline to register is Monday, June 4th. A $10 late registration fee will be accessed after that, but you must be registered by the first night of competition on Thursday, June 7th. Check the registration form for details and rules.

Come on out, every Thursday in June to enjoy our community talents!  June 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th – 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Moore’s Park gazebo.  In case of rain, the event will be held at Pageland Elementary School cafeteria/auditorium.

The Chamber of Commerce recently held another Power Hour Lunch information session with members and downtown businesses.  Beth’s Country Kitchen was the venue for this session, which was on Tuesday, March 20th.

Our speaker for the event was the President of the Pageland Pride Partnership – Johnny Knight.  The partnership hold monthly meetings and two times a year, they host the Pageland Pride Week.  The committee is comprised of members from the Town Council, Chamber of Commerce, Pageland Garden Club and various business men and women of Pageland.

It was announced that the spring Pageland Pride week will be held April 23 – 28.  Saturday, April 28th will be the major work day for the event.  The committee hopes to have several groups working all week long and then all coming together to finish up with touch ups and completions that last day – Saturday.   They are looking for volunteers – individuals or groups, to help with various projects that are being planned.

Pageland Pride is offering grants to business owners for appearance face-lift of store fronts.  This is a 50/50 matching type grant, up to $2500.00.  Once approved, the work must be completed within a specific time frame and then cost receipts submitted for the grant pay out.  The grant applications are taking place through March 30th, so hurry and apply today.

We are proud of our 2011 accomplishments.  We held many annual events such as the Annual Banquet and Awards, 2011 Women in Business Luncheon, 2011 Pageland Watermelon Festival, Annual Golf Tournament and the 2011 Christmas Parade of Lights.  We also enjoyed sponsoring  Art at the Center and the Holiday Tour of Homes.  We hosted the Watermelon Idol Contest, which drew great numbers to the park area for several nights.

During our events, we saw a need at the park for additional steps and lighting.  Along with the Town of Pageland, we took those ideas and turned them into a reality.  Now the park is much easier to access and is has better lighting.  We continue to support the Pageland Pride board and the efforts to rennovate the business district.  We assist them with the yearly Pageland Pride Week events that include painting, washing, repairing and landscape cleanup.

We have some additional goodies in the planning process for next year, including ways to help you in your business life.  Please consider a membership with us.  Bring the Pride to Pageland that we can do as a team!

WE’VE EXTENDED THE DEADLINE UNTIL JUNE 9TH.  THE AGE HAS BEEN CHANGED TO 16 AND UP.

Eastern Redbud Tree

We are going green this St. Patrick’s Day with trees!

The Chamber has purchased bare root Redbud trees and asked businesses to help us give them away.  We have sixteen locations for you to pick up a tree and do some shopping while you are there.  This event is to increase foot traffic in the stores and maybe bringing in some customers that haven’t been in a location lately.  People will be able to see what we have to offer right here in town.

Pageland Antique Mall was the winner for the Best Table Design at the Annual Banquet.  His creation was chosen from among the 30 tables decorated by businesses.  The banquet goers were given a ballot upon arrival and were asked to choose the one they liked best.  It was a tight race with many clever designs.  The winner received $50 from the Chamber of Commerce for a prize.

In a most gracious manner, Michael Kee had his picture made with Chamber President Tony Nolan.  Then, he endorsed the check and asked that the Chamber donate it to the Central High School Ring Fund.  It just so happened that the barbecue benefit was underway, so the donation was delivered.  The coaching staff was excited and very grateful for the donation.  The money will be used to purchase rings and other award item for members of the State 2A Championship Football Team.

We had a successful 3 weeks of Music on Maynard.  It all began with Tony Adams in late October.  Tony always brings a good crowd with him.  The weather was perfect for this October night. 

The 2nd week featured Natural Reaction on November 4th.  The weather caused us to move the event indoors in order to stay dry and warm.  The boys put on a great show for us! 

We skipped a week, then on November 18th, Hope Music – Voices of Hope and Steve West filled the air with christian/holiday tunes.  This event was co-sponsored by Hospice of Chesterfield County.  It was a little chilly, but the hot chocolate was flowing!

The Pageland Chamber of Commerce was proud to sponsor this fall musical event.  We hope to continue Music on Maynard in the early spring.  Thank you for your participation in helping to make Pageland a fun place to live and play!

Renn Farmer, owner of The Renn’sNest in downtown Monroe was our guest speaker.  She had lots of marketing advice to share with us.  Rennis very active in her community and withother downtown merchants – one of the keys to her success.  She advised downtown businesses to be open, even at odd hours, when any downtown events are taking place.  Also, having an advertising plan in mind witha budget is essential.  She suggested advertising in package deals with the newspaper, maintaining a mailing list of customers, and social networking – like Facebook pages.  The Renn’sNest offers postcard discounts monthly to their customers.  Customers return to the store with the postcard for a percentage off  of purchases.  Bringing the card back in helps them know just how well the mailing list works for them.  She had many ideas over the years, some that worked and some that didn’t work for her store.  The important thing was keeping it all fresh and always thinking!

Following our speaker, there was a brief period of time for those present to socialize with others present.  Also, those present enjoyed light breakfast items.  Following the meeting, the Chamber of Commerce drew for the winner of a FREE Chamber small business membership for 2011.  We are proud to announce the winner:  The Bargain Basket, located at 107 West McGregor Street in Pageland.  They have already started to put into place many of the ideas picked up at the meeting.  Check out their new Facebook page:  The Bargain Basket Thrift Store.  By becoming a friend of their page, you will be updated on specials and events. 

The Chamber event was closely followed by the Chesterfield County Economic Development Board meeting with Pageland, Jefferson, and Mt. Croghan residents, businesses and leaders.  This strategic planning session focused on our area assets, gaps, plans and how to make it all happen.  It was great to come together, expressing ideas that we felt would benefit our area and residents.

The Chamber looks forward to continuing the efforts expressed at the meetings.  We actively search for ways to help you, but we also need your help.  These are community efforts – it takes us all, working together!
