Cathy Smith, candidate for District 5, Town Council

My name is Cathy Smith and I have lived in Pageland my entire life.  My parents were the late Mr. & Mrs. Paul Smith (Catherine).  I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters.  I am a life member of First Presbyterian Church in Pageland.  I gradated from Pageland High School in 1971.  I retired from the Pageland Police Department in March 2005 after working 26 years as a dispatcher.  Since I retired I spend most of my spare time taking friends that are unable to drive to their doctor’s appointments and grocery store.  I also enjoy spending time with my elderly aunt that is in a nursing home.  I am the incumbent for Town Council Distrist 5.  The Town has seen changes during the last four years and I feel sure changes will continue.  However, I don’t think any hasty decisions need to be made regarding the issues the Town is presently facing.  Before making decisions on any issue I have always weighed the pros and cons of each issue.  I always try to remember the life long residents of the Town, because without our long term residents Pageland wouldn’t be what it is today.  Therefore I’m not in favor of increases on water/sewer/gargabe bills nor tax increases.  I know that sometimes increases are a must but I personally feel any increase should be in extreme circumstances only.  I have always responded promptly to any calls or concerns that citizens have contacted me about.  I have enjoyed serving the residents of Pageland as a Council Member for the previous 4 years and would like to continue to serve as your council member for another 4 years.  I will be unable to attend the forum on October 20, 2009 due to a prior engagement that was planned 6 months ago.
