David Whitaker, Mayoral Candidate
The mission and purpose of government is to protect the health, safety and welfare of its citizens. To accomplish this mission I am asking for you to vote for me, David Whitaker, as mayor on November 3. I have been a resident of Pageland most of my life. I am a graduate of Central High School, and I’m currently employed by Sandhill Telephone Cooperative. My job duties allow me the opportunity to meet many of the town citizens face to face.
The Town of Pageland offers an excellent quality of life. It is an outstanding community to raise a family. Unfortunately, growth in the downtown area has become stagnant with dilapidated buildings in desperate need of repair. We need to bring more business to the downtown area, not just out on the Highway 151 bypass where we are experiencing unprecedented growth. I look forward to more economic development for our town.
My main objectives are to resolve the sewer issue for town residents and to help increase productivity for all town departments. Crime has increased during this economic down-turn and our citizens need to partner more closely with the Pageland Police Department to prevent theft and illegal actions. By working together, we can make our Pageland community feel safe and protected. In order to obtain grants and maintain day to day operations, I believe a town administrator is crucial to Pageland. There are a great deal of grants available including The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act which has funds that we can secure to help with the future success of Pageland. I will work closely with the administrator and town council to obtain these grants in order to accomplish my objectives and those of the people of the Town of Pageland.
I look forward to serving you as your next mayor, and I’d appreciate your vote on November 3rd.
