We have just concluded another great festival season.  All the hard work paid off and despite the rain, we had a great event.  Temperatures were HOT, but considering the previous days leading up to the festival, it was pleasant.  The rain on Friday evening took a toll on the vendors and potential sales, but Saturday brought out a great crowd that was ready to go.

“The parade was one of the best in years”, commented a watcher on McGregor Street.  “There were lots of things to see for the kids and the adults.  Everything went along smoothly.”  After the parade, folks moved down to the gazebo and festival area on Pearl street.  We had another short rain, but then the festival was in full gear with lots of food, amusement rides and things to buy.  Festival contest went on as scheduled with winners in the best watermelon dressed, seed spitting and eating contest.  The Mayor and Councilmen, along with their families, cut and served watermelon at the hospitality tent.

We had pig races, bull riding, face painting and any kind of food you could imagine.  MR PLEAZE  entertained one of the largest crowds the festival has ever seen.  They also introduced our Watermelon Idol winner, Hannah Price – who also entertained us with a few song selections.

We hope you had a chance to come out and enjoy the festival with us.  We look forward to the 2013 Pageland Watermelon Festival – which will be here before you know it!  Enjoy these pictures from some of our events.
