Pageland Floral and Gift Shop
Pageland Floral and Gift Shop has been serving the citizens of Pageland and surrounding areas for thirty years. The shop was originally owned and operated by Mary Jenkins. When Mrs. Jenkins passed away in 1999 the family called Rena Smith and asked her to purchase the shop. They knew she would continue operating the shop in the same manner Mrs. Jenkins had. Rena discussed it with her husband and on their anniversary he purchased the floral business for her and said with a smile, “Now, I’ll never have to buy you another flower.” Rena says the Lord worked everything out for the shop to be hers.
Rena began remodeling the shop as soon as she bought it to better serve her customers. “We removed walls to make the display area larger. We wanted people to be able to come in and see what we had to offer without feeling closed in.” Rena kept Mrs. Jenkins assistant, Mrs. Lorraine Jenkins on staff. Lorraine has worked at the shop now for more than 25 years. She feels, “People want to be treated fairly and with respect. I try to treat each customer with the same level of respect and fairness that I would want to receive.” Lorraine has a God given talent for arranging flowers, but says she did take a few bow-making classes. Lorraine and Rena are also the best of friends. They agree, “It makes work very enjoyable.” They live by Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.”
Rena and Lorraine share their commitment to making sure their customers are happy with the services they provide. Rena is proud that the shop receives fresh flowers daily. “Having flowers delivered daily from our growers allows us to provide our customer with the freshest possible flower. It also enables us to be able to offer a wider variety. If a customer wants a specific type of flower or something exotic we usually can provide it. We need a 48-hour notice to be able to get the more exotic flowers such as calla lilies or orchids.”
The shop is full of lush, green houseplants as well as dish gardens and silk arrangements. According to the season you will also find a nice array of flowering plants that can be kept indoors and later planted in the garden. The shop boasts a large assortment of funeral floral pieces including cone, basket, vase, over monument, and freestanding arrangements as well as casket sprays. Something new in funeral pieces is a freestanding arrangement that features a keepsake afghan. Rena offers cemetery maintenance services by replacing arrangements monthly or by season. “Some people bring in their own container while others prefer having us place the flowers at the grave site.” The shop delivers funeral pieces to Pageland, Jefferson, Mt. Croghan, Patrick, Ruby, and Chesterfield. They also provide a floral wire service.
Custom décor is provided for those wishing to add that special touch to their home. By bringing in a swatch of fabric, Rena can customize an arrangement from the vase up. She is also happy to offer suggestions for accessorizing.
The shop is full of beautiful home decorating items such as framed art, ceramics, porcelain, brass items, potpourri, baskets, yard art, and a vast collection of Pageland watermelon décor. If you need a baby gift you will find everything from stuffed animals to those special baby keepsakes. Rena has a large collection of beautiful and useful gift baskets. If you like a little glitz and glamour you may also find a tiara or jewelry for yourself or that special girl in your life. Nothing says “I love you” like a beautiful vase full of gorgeous roses for Valentine’s Day or just to let her know how much you care! And of course Pageland Floral can deliver. If you need the perfect corsage or boutonnière for prom, this is the place to find it. Craft supplies for school projects are also available at the shop. Styrofoam balls used to make the ever popular “solar system’ models for science class can be found here as well as Styrofoam in many shapes and sizes. Rena finds that often parents will stop by the shop in desperation trying to find craft items after driving to Monroe to find them. “They drive all the way to Monroe and can’t find what they need, stop in here and we have exactly what they were looking for.” Rena smiles at this. She knows that when people shop in downtown Pageland they will realize that, “Pageland has lots of hidden treasures.” People just need to know that much of what they want or need is waiting for them right here in Pageland.
