Each year, the Pageland Chamber of Commerce selects two outstanding graduates to receive a $250 cash scholarship.  The selection is based on the requirements that the recipient plans to attend a South Carolina institution of higher education, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and most importantly, be involved in school and community service related activities.  One scholarship is awarded to a senior at Central High School and one at South Pointe Christian School.  The announcement is made at each school on awards day.

On May 26th, Central High School held the 2010 Awards Day program.  We are proud to announce that Casey Wadsworth was chosen to receive the Chamber Scholarship this year.  Casey is the daughter of Edith and Rodney Melton of Pageland, SC.  She plans to attend the College of Charleston and major in biology/pre-med.  She is still debating on which field of medicine in which she will pursue a career and hopes to be accepted at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.  While attending CHS, Casey served as the Beta Club President, HOSA president, Mu Alpha Theta, Delphian Society, National Technical Honor Society, and was a member of the Varsity Cheerleading squad.  Her community service involved tutoring students after school and volunteering at Pageland Elementary School.  Casey received the class Salutatorian title for graduation.

On June 3rd, South Pointe Christian School held the 2010 Awards Day program.  We are proud to announce that Trevor Sullivan was chosen to receive the Chamber Scholarship this year.  Trevor is the son of Bruce and Kim Sullivan of Pageland, SC.  This fall, he plans to attend Anderson University in Anderson, SC.  Trevor would like to pursue a career in worship leadership and music and he would like to minor in Business Management.  While attending South Pointe, Trevor served on the Yearbook staff, Beta Club, American Christian Honor Society, Boy Scouts of America, Youth Group Leader, Band Leader, and Vacation Bible School volunteer.  He also played on the soccer and baseball teams.  Some of Trevor’s Community service included VBS leadership, Upward soccer coach, church clean up, South Pointe Family Fun Day, Taste of Pageland set up, building school dugouts through an Eagle Scout project, S.P. Watermelon Festival volunteer and Youth Leader.

We are proud of our scholarship winners and all the 2010 graduates of Central High School and South Pointe Christian School.  You have closed one chapter of your life long book, but you have many chapters ahead to write.  Keep your goals high and achieve much!
